DISCLAIMER: Peer Support through a buddy system is not therapy and is not intended to be therapy. For professional assistance contact your RD or other clinician for therapy. This is provided by willing participants who themselves are clients and are willing to receive support and give support.

OBJECTIVE: Peers supporting peers in a time of difficulty

As a member of our support group, be ready to provide support and receive support from one another. We will listen, acknowledge and share as appropriate. Everyone shows support in different ways - as long as you lend an ear and are respectful, anyone is welcome!

EXPECTATIONS:

Remember, it is okay to reach out. We are all experiencing some aspect of an ED and together, we can strengthen one another together. There are times you may feel a need to talk outside of a therapy session, be it your RD, LMFT, or other licensed care provider. Some key points:

  • Refrain from the use of triggering words/terms eg: weight numbers

  • Refrain from diet talk

  • Do not share self harm ideations; can also be triggering

  • Be mindful of the buddy reaching out

  • Be caring and kind

  • Ask if you can return a call if unable to immediately help out
